Charlize Theron is beautiful and talented, and she can be so nervous just like anyone else. And unfortunately for her, when she gets really nervous, she gets “verbal diarrhea.”
Charlize Theron said:
“I have this thing that happens when I get nervous where I get so nervous that I will say something really inappropriate … it’s like Tourette’s in a weird way. Like I don’t know how to stop it, it’s like blahhhh … it’s like verbal diarrhea.”
The last time Charlize Theron was on the show (Jimmy Kimmel), in March, President Barack Obama made an appearance, as well. Kimmel reminded her of that fact, and said he remembered seeing the pair chatting backstage, E! Online reported.
He probably shouldn’t have brought it up, because the only word Charlize could find to describe what she likely hoped was a dignified, thoughtful conversation was “terrible.”
Apparently, the president moved heaven and Earth to meet Theron backstage, getting his people to fetch the actress and bring her to him for a chat. As Charlize described it, “Everything had stopped around his world to meet me and it was just a lot pressure and I was really nervous.”
She said Obama talked about how being on Jimmy Kimmel would help him reach a different demographic — the younger generation. Charlize, of course, agreed, but then she gave the president an unusual suggestion that haunted her for weeks.
“Then there was this pause and I didn’t know what to say and all I could come up with was, ‘Well, if you’re looking for a different demographic I can take you a strip club.’ “
Theron’s immediate reaction was disbelief at the words that seemed to spill, unbidden and unfortunately uncensored, from her mouth. One can only imagine the look on the president’s face as he absorbed this wisdom (oh, to be a fly on the wall…), but his reaction was what you’d expect.
He did not jump on Air Force One, Theron in tow, to search out the nearest strip club, as Kimmel joked he would surely do.
“No, he was so gracious and funny and he could tell that I was really nervous and he was nothing but lovely and then I couldn’t sleep for like four weeks ’cause every time I closed my eyes I went, (gasp) ‘Oh my god, I said that. Oh my god, why did I say that?’ “
Of course, as Jimmy joked, if Charlize Theron had made that suggestion to a different Commander in Chief (we’re looking at you, Bill Clinton), the story may have had a much sleazier ending....
